Mindfulness Moments

During my research for a recebt speech preparation, I found that there’s a Global Wellbeing Index that was created in 2015. For the past decade these studies have been used by peacebuilders, policymakers, civil society and researchers to provide a comprehensive view of societal well-being beyond the traditional economic indicators.

It measures wellbeing across different countries and regions based on global health, environment, social connections, and economic factors.

The average global health score is 71%

September symbolises back to school, a changing of the seasons and quiet transitions, from the sun-soaked spontaneity of the summer to the structured routines of the autumnal months.

Use this space to pause, reflect and reset. Space is a great opportunity to introduce mindful habits into your daily life. To ground yourself and refocus on becoming more present and increasing your wellbeing.

More aware of your thoughts, actions and how you move through your day. Even the smallest shifts in your attention can create a big impact on how you show up for yourself and others. To be present, to be calm, to be connected, and to move throughout your day with purpose.

5 strategies to be more mindful this season:

πŸ’« Start the day without your phone ~

Open the curtains, welcome daylight and the day ahead. Take a moment to write in your journal , do some yoga like the sun salutations, and drink some lemon water to detox and hydrate your body. Beginning each day quietly helps you to stay grounded and avoid the noise of social media and external communications.

πŸ’« Mindful Weekly Walk ~

This walk is about attention to your surrounding, it’s not about monitoring and maintaining your step count. Take notice of your surroundings without being plugged in…

✨ the air, what does it smell like and how does it feel on your face?

✨ what does your environment sound like, are the leaves rustling, ground crunching under your feet, are the birds chirping?

Having this time to ground yourself and reconnect with nature, your body and your surroundings helps to bring clarity and to listen to your inner voice ~ your thoughts, feelings and often answers to your questions will come too.

πŸ’« Eat a mindful meal ~

We often eat whilst doing something else - scrolling through our phones, watching Netflix or working at our desks. Try eating one meal a day or even a few times a week without multitasking.

Focus on your food: the flavours, the textures and how it makes your body feel. Mindful eating helps regulate the appetite, improves your digestion and can turn a basic habit into a moment of calm and connection.

πŸ’« Create an evening relaxation routine ~

Better mornings start the night before. Instead of scrolling yourself to sleep, disconnect and create a relaxing routine. A short evening regime that signals it’s time to unwind and rest.

Light a candle, write down three things you’re grateful for, do some gentle yoga or stretches and read a book. It doesn’t need to be long and complicated, a consistent 10 minute ritual will make a big difference in how you sleep.

πŸ’« Check in with yourself, ‘What do I need right now?’ ~

This simple question is a mindfulness practise in itself. Taking a moment to check in with yourself twice a day to meet your needs in that moment…

✨ between tasks

✨ before a meal

✨ during a stressful moment

What do I need right now?

✨ do you need a break?

✨ do you need a snack?

✨ do you need some fresh air?

✨ do you need movement?

Mindfulness doesn’t require hours of meditation it’s micro moments of choosing to be present rather than in autopilot. When you approach an activity with more awareness you start to focus on the positives and the blessings God has granted us… it’s the little things like fresh sheets, warm sunshine, the smell of flowers.

These mindful practises help you stay grounded. There’s no right or wrong way to be mindful, do it in your own way. It’s just about noticing and appreciating what’s already around you.
